Referees for the 2017/18 WNBL Announced

On Monday the 18th of September Basketball Australia announced the referees that will officiate the games of the 2017/18 WNBL season.

A total of 30 officials were appointed to the panel with a number of additional officials added to the newly formed National Referee Development Program (NRDP).

Basketball NSW would like to congratulate the NSW officials who were selected onto the panel.

  • Rebecca Brockway (Hills Basketball Association)
  • Nico Fernandes (City of Sydney Basketball Association)
  • Guy Richards (Northern Suburbs Basketball Association)
  • Shahrad Shafaghi (Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Basketball Association)

Selected to the NRDP Referees Panel. The new Basketball Australia NRDP officials will also participate within the WNBL framework for development.

“To be given the opportunity to be part of the NRDP panel is an honour and a privilege. I am looking forward to working alongside WNBL referees to help craft my skills as a young female official” said Hayley

“Getting the opportunity to referee in the national league, as part of the new NRDP, has always been a huge goal for me and I’m very humbled and excited for the appointment.”

Debbie Keirs added, “Basketball NSW would like to congratulate all officials who have been selected onto the panel, it’s pleasing to see that Basketball Australia has recognised a development opportunity for officials to progress via the NRDP”.  

“All of these officials have represented NSW at numerous Australian Junior Championships’ and have all been appointed to multiple medal games.  These officials are all great ambassadors for the game of basketball, not only are they active in the Waratah League competition, they also contribute to the development of our up and coming officials”.
