The 2021 Basketball NSW U13 & U14 Talented Athlete Program (TAP) camps have successfully concluded for 2021.

After the cancellation of the live-in camps in 2020, the BNSW High Performance team was excited to facilitate the camp once again at the Sydney Academy of Sport at Narrabeen across two separate weeks in May.

The BNSW TAP camp has a large focus on developing athletes both on the court and off the court to assist athletes in all areas of their development away from their normal environment.

The on-court component of the camp focuses on developing the individual athlete’s fundamental skill, as well as providing them an insight into the concepts of play involved within the NSW State Performance Program and NSW State Team Program.

The off-court component of the camp focuses on 4 key areas; how to watch video, learning how to manage their workload, how to become a self-regulated athlete, and how to develop & grow their support network.

Practical activities including foam rolling and hold/cold recovery pool sessions were also conducted. All athletes participated in a batch of physical tests as well that provided important data to the coaching staff and feedback for improvement to the athletes.

Basketball New South Wales, General Manager for Coaching and Education, Brett Coxsedge said that it was wonderful to see the athletes back on court and finally able to facilitate the staple event on the High Performance calendar.

“It was fantastic to see our athletes fully immerse themselves in this pre-elite environment that saw the development and growth of all on and off the court,” said Coxsedge.

“Over the four separate camps, we had 200 athletes participate in the program from across Country & Metro NSW. The camp gave all participants a unique basketball experience that aims to progress the athletes through the high performance pathway.”

Basketball New South Wales would also like to say a huge thank-you to all the athletes and association coaching staff that dedicated their time to the program this past month.
