The 2022 NBL1 East season is locked and ready to tip-off with the first round slated to bring excitement and thrills for basketball fans across the state starting on April 2nd.
With 18 rounds of regular competition, the 12 men’s teams will play 22 games and the 11 women’s teams will play 20 games each.
Round one will feature a number of unmissable clashes and heavyweights ready to battle it out and make their mark on the competition.
In their introduction to the NBL1 East, Albury Wodonga will make the trip up to Sydney to face the Bankstown Bruins in the first men’s matchup in the 2022 season in what will be sure to be a must-see game for all fans. The first women’s clash will feature the Central Coast Crusaders taking on Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at Terrigal.
Cross-town rivals Maitland Mustangs and the revamped Newcastle Falcons have the opportunity to compete for bragging rights when the two associations from the Hunter meet on Saturday evening at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
Basketball NSW, CEO, Maria Nordstrom said the schedule celebrated the return of elite basketball to NSW.
“After months of careful preparation and planning, the inaugural NBL1 East draw is set and ready to go and as a basketball fan, I am very excited that the season is only a few months away from tipping-off,” said Nordstrom.
“I know our 12 associations have been working extremely hard to secure the best-talented athletes and coaches from across the country to deliver the heart-pounding entertainment fans expect for the league.”
All NBL1 games will be livestreamed and each week a men and women’s game of the week, from each conference, will be featured on Kayo Freebies.
The 2022 NBL1 season for the West, Central, South and North conferences will have a staggered start after East tips off, with NBL1 West starting on the 8th of April, NBL1 Central starting on the 9th of April, NBL1 South starting on the 21st of April and NBL1 North starting on the 29th of April.
Across all 5 NBL1 conferences, there will be a number of themed rounds throughout the season which all Associations and fans are encouraged to get involved in. The themed rounds include:
- ANZAC Round – 21st to 24th April
- Pink Round – 6th to 8th May
- Mental Health Round – 18th to 19th June
- First Nations Round – 9th to 10th July.

The NBL1 East Finals will be held on the 27th & 28th of August with a venue to be announced in the upcoming months.
Each conference will complete its regular season and conference finals, with the men’s and women’s champions to then compete in the NBL1 Finals Series 9-11 September, 2022.
