Basketball NSW is excited to share that the John Davidson Country Jamboree will once again take place in 2023 with two venues sharing to host to the event.

The next generation of basketball superstars will get their chance to learn, play and most importantly have fun in a safe and supportive environment over the three-day development program.

The Jamboree will have two locations with  Griffith (23 September – 25 September) & Port Macquarie (6-8th October) selected to host to support the growth of regional athletes in NSW.

The Jamboree is named after Life Member of the Dubbo and Port Macquarie Basketball Associations, John Davidson who has devoted much of his life to the growth of country basketball in New South Wales.  Davidson served on the Board of Basketball NSW as a Director, spanning over many years from 1984-2013.

He has also served on a number of committees, including the Macquarie Conference Commissioner, the NSW Judiciary Committee, the NSW State Basketball League Chair, the Championship Committee Chair, the Operations Management Committee Chair, and the NSW Country Committee Chair. In 2000, the members of Basketball NSW honoured John by awarding him Life Membership.

The Jamboree was developed to provide junior country basketballers with an enjoyable basketball experience that includes more than just direct head-to-head competition such as including social activities, coaching clinics, and games. The focus is not on winning, it is participatory and enjoyment of the game that is important at Jamboree. The games have specifically designed rules that cater to the involvement of all players.

In order to be selected to attend the Jamboree, U12 athletes first must attend an upcoming U12 Skills Day during the May to July period. It is from there that coaches and selectors will be inviting participants to the Jamboree in September/October.

Southern Jamboree Selection criteria will come from players from Western Junior League and Southern Junior League.

Northern Jamboree Selection Criteria will come from players who play in the Northern & Eastern Junior league.

The NSW Country Basketball Under-12 skills days offer players from Country NSW associations an opportunity to receive expert coaching to develop their skills to the highest level. These skills days centre around coaching fundamental basketball skills that they will require as they move onto the next age group.

These skills days are for anyone just starting out with basketball from beginners to representative-level players. The focus is on enjoying basketball as well as growing the player’s ability and knowledge of the game.

Whether you are looking to learn something new, develop new skills as a basketball player, or aspire to be selected for Jamboree, we encourage you to come and experience the fun and excitement of the skills day.
