The Basketball NSW U16 Schools Tournament State Championships took place on May 28th & 29th at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, bringing together schools from across New South Wales in a fierce competition for the coveted first-place medal.

The tournament saw 44 schools competing across three divisions, resulting in 83 games played over the two-day event. The intense competition included numerous nail-biting finishes that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

Open to all interested schools within the U16 age group, the event featured teams that advanced from regional competitions held throughout the state. The top teams from each region in their respective divisions battled it out in the State Championships.

Basketball NSW extends a special thanks to the referees who ensured fairness and integrity throughout the tournament.

The dedicated officials included Broughton Hamilton, Dustin D’Souza, Garry Clark, Leonie Moore, Cooper Paterson, Kylie Montgomery, Tayln Montgomery, Bailey Connor, Evan Hewlett, Sophia Hunt, Heath Williams, Mia Consolacion, Matias Chong, Anatasha De Vos, Beau Williams, Brandon Sutton and Jake Erikson

Chanelle Bailey, Basketball NSW Senior Manager: Competitions & Leagues, expressed her excitement for the event.

“It was amazing to have such strong competition at our first State Championships,” said Bailey.

“We’re excited for the upcoming Opens and Primary Schools tournaments later this year. A big thank you to everyone who participated; we can’t wait to build on this success next time..”
