The 2025 Basketball NSW U14 & U15 D-League wrapped up in Penrith over the weekend, bringing together some of the state’s most exciting young basketballers, dedicated coaches and emerging referees.

Following on from last month’s successful U16 & U18 D-League, which showcased the depth of talent in the older age groups, this weekend’s event highlighted the next wave of athletes beginning their high performance journey.

Over two action-packed days, athletes from across Metro and Country NSW tested their skills, competed at a high level, and embraced the challenges of a development-focused environment designed to prepare them for the next stage in their basketball journey.

More than 240 athletes, 50 coaches and 27 referees took part in a weekend filled with competition, education, and connection to the perfect mix of on-court action and learning that makes D-League a cornerstone of Basketball NSW’s player and coach development pathway.

The D-League program is all about identifying talent early and providing the right environment for it to grow. For many participants, the U14 & U15 D-League represents their first experience in a structured high-performance setting, helping them understand the standards, expectations, and teamwork needed to progress through the pathway.

Basketball NSW’s General Manager of Coaching and Development, Brett Coxsedge, said the weekend showcased the depth of potential within NSW basketball’s next generation.

“The energy and enthusiasm from these younger age groups were fantastic to see,” said Coxsedge.

“For many of these athletes, this is the first step on a longer journey and the way they approached the weekend, both on and off the court, speaks volumes about their commitment and love for the game.”

Building on last year’s successful format, the U14 & U15 D-League continued the one-weekend structure that combines intensive training and competition. This approach reduces travel costs and scheduling pressure for families while maintaining the high-performance focus that makes the program so valuable.

Basketball NSW extends its thanks to Momentum Physiotherapy and Health Services, who provided ongoing athlete care throughout the weekend. The organisation also recognises the outstanding efforts of the referees and referee coach educators, whose professionalism helped deliver a smooth and competitive tournament.

As the D-League concludes for another year, Basketball NSW celebrates the collective effort of everyone involved and wishes all athletes the best of luck ahead for the remainder of the year.
