Basketball NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of Mathew Neason to the position of Performance Pathways Coach – Country.

Neason comes to Basketball NSW after holding a range of high performance coaching and management roles across Australia, including the Australian Institute of Sport, Newcastle Basketball and Rockhampton Basketball. Having spent the past seven years in regional NSW, Matt is excited to further embed himself in the New South Wales basketball ecosystem and continue to develop our Country athletes to international level.

“I am genuinely excited to get to work with the amazing athletes, coaches and support staff in NSW. The program is really well placed on the back of foundational work by Macs Monk and our volunteer coaches. There has been some great momentum across our Country program over the past few years and I look forward to further extending that” said Neason.

Neason is suitably qualified for the role having been involved in SPP for over 20 years and coached state teams across four states, including his current role as coach of the U18 Boys NSW Country team. He also has vast experience with NBL1, has been involved with the Regional Academies of Sport, and delivered grass-roots programs, making him well placed to support athletes and coaches across the entire development pathway, which will be a key strategic focus as we work to deliver upon the BNSW Strategic Plan 2026-2028.

Basketball NSW General Manager Coaching and Development Brett Coxsedge welcomed Matt to the team and said he is set to play an important role in the delivery of the BNSW Performance Pathways Programs while also strengthening the underpinning Development Programs.

“Matt is a highly experienced basketball professional, having worked extensively across both management and coaching roles. He has a strong understanding of the work Basketball NSW is currently undertaking, as well as the organisation’s vision for the future. Matt excels at building relationships with both players and coaches and will undoubtedly bring fresh ideas that will further support the growth of the sport across Country NSW. We are excited to welcome him to the Basketball NSW team,” said Coxsedge.

Matt Neason officially commences duties at the start of January.
