Basketball NSW has today announced the appointment of Stuart Hodge as its new Chief Executive Officer following a comprehensive national search process.
Stuart brings extensive experience in sport administration, commercial growth and government to lead Basketball NSW through its next phase of growth.
Stuart joins Basketball NSW from Sport NSW, the peak body representing state sporting organisations across NSW, where he has served as CEO for the past three and a half years. He previously spent five years as CEO of Football NSW, one of the largest state sporting bodies in the country, where he led major commercial, facilities and competition reform.
Basketball NSW Chair, Lisa Yen, said the Board’s decision followed a rigorous and independent assessment process.
Stuart brings commercial acumen, deep understanding of the NSW sporting and government landscape and a genuine connection to our sport. He’s exactly the leader Basketball NSW needs as we pursue opportunities and tackle the big challenges ahead — particularly facilities, where demand for our sport continues to far outstrip access across the state,” Ms Yen said.
Stuart said he was looking forward to leading the organisation at a pivotal time for the sport.
“Basketball is one of the fastest-growing sports in New South Wales, and I’ve seen first-hand — as a parent, a coach and a volunteer — just how much demand there is at grassroots level. I’m excited to bring my experience to Basketball NSW, and to work with the Board, staff and basketball community to build on the strong foundations already in place,” Mr Hodge said.
Basketball NSW also acknowledged the contribution of David Simpson, who has served as Interim CEO since January 2026, steering the organisation through a period of transition with professionalism, steadiness and genuine commitment to this organisation.
Stuart will commence as CEO in October 2026.
