Basketball NSW calls for the Active Kids Voucher Program to continue beyond June 30, in response to an article in the Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, 5th of May, “Sport NSW scrambles for clarity on Active Kids vouchers from government”, and that the Minns government is now considering allowing the Active Kids program to end next month.
We urge the NSW Government to continue supporting families and the youth in NSW through initiatives like Active Kids Voucher Program to ensure everyone can benefit from participating in sport.
The NSW Government’s Active Kids Rebate has positively impacted many families across the state. With more than one million children taking advantage of this program since its introduction, it is clear that there are overwhelming benefits associated with engaging in physical activity and sports. Not only does it relieve financial pressure on households, it also boosts well-being and helps keep kids healthy.
“Given these positive impacts, we believe now is not the time to withdraw such a wonderful program”, said the CEO of Basketball NSW, Maria Nordstrom.
“It is an important investment in children, families and communities; sport plays an integral role in the social and physical developing of children”. she added
Since the program’s inception in 2018, the program has undoubtedly positively impacted the growth and development of basketball in NSW. Over 19 million dollars in vouchers have been redeemed with basketball providers right across the State.
The removal of this program would significantly impact our associations and their members, many families rely on the Active Kids Voucher Program, and without it, participation in sports would be a cost cut in many household budgets.
