Basketball NSW is proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of our community members who have been named finalists in the 2025 Sport NSW Community Sports Awards.
These prestigious awards celebrate the tireless efforts and exceptional contributions of individuals, clubs, and organisations dedicated to grassroots sport across New South Wales.
Each year, Sport NSW honours excellence across 12 categories, highlighting the invaluable impact of volunteers, officials, coaches, administrators, local councils, and community clubs. This year’s winners will be revealed during a special presentation ceremony held at CommBank Stadium, Parramatta, on June 30.
We are thrilled to announce that three nominees from the Basketball NSW community have been named finalists in their respective categories:
Community Official of the Year – Sarah Fahey (Newcastle Basketball)
Young Official of the Year – Emmy Prykiel (Norths Basketball)
Inclusion Achievement of the Year – Basketball NSW
We are proud to be recognised for our continued commitment to building a more inclusive basketball community across New South Wales. In 2024, Basketball NSW significantly expanded its inclusive programming to celebrate and empower diverse communities:
- Pride Basketball Australia Tournament: Held during the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for the second consecutive year, this tournament welcomed over 100 LGBTQ+ participants from across the country in a celebration of visibility, inclusion, and community.
- NAIDOC 3×3 Series: Hosted in Coffs Harbour, Wagga Wagga, and Armidale, the series engaged over 600 participants, combining sport and cultural pride through accessible 3×3 basketball.
- Assist All Hoops: This newly launched initiative is tailored to young people with intellectual impairments, providing inclusive opportunities that align with our mainstream programming and support families and participants at every level.
- First Nations Challenge: Debuted in 2024, this culturally significant tournament for Indigenous youth aged 11–17 was held in conjunction with the NBL’s Indigenous Round. The event culminated in a high-profile matchup between the Illawarra Hawks and Sydney Kings, offering an unforgettable experience for participants.
- Our Mob Our Game: Rebranded and relaunched with two participation pathways, Come N Try and Come N Play, this program has reached over 7,700 participants and become a cornerstone for accessible, culturally responsive basketball in regional and metropolitan NSW.
We look forward to celebrating all finalists and their contributions at the upcoming awards ceremony. Best of luck to our nominees!
