In a major milestone for junior basketball in New South Wales, Basketball NSW is excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Under 12 Metro Jamboree, set to debut in 2025.
This new initiative follows the long-standing success of the John Davidson Country Jamboree, which has been a highlight on the Basketball NSW calendar for over two decades. For the first time, Under 12 athletes from Metro NSW will now have the opportunity to experience their own version of this iconic event.
The Metro Jamboree is designed to provide young players with a memorable and enjoyable basketball experience that goes beyond traditional head-to-head competition. With a focus on development, fun, and community, the event will feature high-level coaching, skill development sessions, and social activities that encourage friendship, teamwork, and a love for the game.
Basketball NSW Programs Manager, Adam Marjoram, shared that the exciting introduction of the Metro Jamboree is driven by the incredible growth and rising popularity of basketball in the metropolitan areas.
“We’ve seen the incredible impact the John Davidson Country Jamboree has had on young country athletes for such a long time, not just in terms of skill development, but in creating lifelong memories and friendships,’ said Marjoram.
“This initiative is all about supporting young, talented athletes from the metro region, giving them a unique chance to thrive both on and off the court. It’s not just about skills, it’s about building a positive, supportive culture and fostering lasting friendships that will help shape their basketball journeys for years to come
“It’s exciting that we now have the chance to offer this amazing opportunity and unforgettable experience to our metro athletes! This is a huge step forward in growing the game and bringing it to new heights, as we continue to inspire and support talent all across the state. With this opportunity, we’re not just expanding the game, we’re creating lasting impact and spreading the excitement to every corner of the state.”
The emphasis at the Metro Jamboree is on participation, enjoyment, and inclusivity. Games are specially modified to ensure all players are actively involved and can make the most of the experience, regardless of their playing level.
The Metro Jamboree is an outstanding opportunity for young players to grow both on and off the court, connect with peers from other associations, and learn from passionate and experienced coaches in a positive and supportive environment.
Players will be selected to attend the Jamboree from the upcoming Metro Under 12 Skills Days, scheduled during the April and June/July school holidays. More information about those dates will be announced soon.
