As communities across Australia come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, Basketball NSW is proud to recognise the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme, “50 Years Deadly”, marks an important milestone, celebrating five decades of recognising and honouring the achievements and enduring legacy of First Nations communities, while looking ahead to the next generation who will continue to shape that story.

At Basketball NSW, we know basketball is about more than what happens on the court. It’s about bringing people together, creating connections and providing spaces where everyone feels welcome. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to celebrate those values and acknowledge the important role First Nations peoples continue to play within our game and communities.

This weekend also marks NBL1 East First Nations Round, with clubs across the competition coming together to celebrate and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The round provides an opportunity to acknowledge the rich history and ongoing contributions of First Nations peoples to basketball, while celebrating culture through the game.

Throughout the week, Basketball NSW is also proud to deliver and support a range of NAIDOC basketball events across New South Wales, including our NAIDOC 3×3 Gala Days in Wagga Wagga, Griffith, West Wyalong and Coffs Harbour, alongside community events in Ballina and Armidale. These events are designed to celebrate culture, encourage participation and bring communities together through the game we all love.
