BASKETBALL NSW WINS ORGANISATION OF THE YEAR

Basketball NSW has tipped-off another fantastic start to the year, recently winning Organisation of the Year for 2021 at the NSW Champions of Sport Ceremony gala at Parramatta’s CommBank Stadium, last Monday evening. 

The annual awards ceremony highlights the success and achievements of all sports throughout the state and reconsiges the contribution all staff, stakeholders, athletes and volunteers during the calendar year. 

In a number of categories, Basketball NSW was also recognized as finalists;

  • Team of the Year- U20 Women Blue, U20 Australian Champions
  • CEO of the Year – Maria Nordstrom 
  • Official of the Year – Helen Maree Rosenberg, Wheelchair Basketball
  • Organisation of the Year – Basketball NSW (WINNERS)

Basketball NSW, CEO, Maria Nordstrom expressed her gratitude in receiving the prestigious award and thanked all other award nominees.

“After a tumultuous last 24 months, it was wonderful to see such a large array of various sporting communities rallying together to focus on all the positive news stories to come out of New South Wales,” said Nordstrom. 

“My team at Basketball NSW, have been nothing but instrumental in continuing to get people involved in our sport at all facets of the game during some of the most difficult times we have seen, and with the FIBA Women’s World Cup set to tip-off later this year here on home soil, what a way to spread the excitement about the great things we are doing as a sport.”

“On behalf of my team, I would like to congratulate all award winners and finalists as well as say a huge thank you to Sport NSW for their recognition – we are extremely grateful. ”

    • Athlete of the Year – Jessica Fox (paddle) and Cate Campbell (swimming)
    • Athlete of the Year with a Disability – Matthew Levy (swimming)
    • Young Athlete of the Year – Sam Fricker (diving)
    • Young Athlete of the Year with a Disability – Timothy Hodge (swimming)
    • Masters Athlete of the Year – Elizabeth Hole (archery)
    • Team of the Year – NSW Swifts (netball)
    • Team of the Year with a Disability – NSW Gladiators (wheelchair rugby)
    • Administrator of the Year – Mick Garnett (wheelchair rugby)
    • Coach of the Year – Simon Cusack (swimming)
    • Event of the Year – Netball NSW Reconciliation Week (netball)
    • Official of the Year – Amy Perrett (rugby union)
    • Organisation of the Year – Basketball NSW
