Basketball NSW is pleased to announce the official reopening of the redeveloped Bathurst Indoor Sports Stadium on Saturday 7th of June, coinciding with the 2025 John Martin Country Tournament.
The significant upgrades were made possible through the support of the NSW Government’s Level the Playing Field Program, with $1,151,773 awarded under the 2023/24 grant round for the “Bathurst Indoor Sports Stadium – Sport for All Upgrade”. In addition, the Bathurst Regional Council committed a further $700,000 to upgrade the stadium’s roofing infrastructure, addressing long-standing issues with leaks and improving the overall facility experience.
The redevelopment has revitalised one of the region’s key indoor sporting venues. Key improvements include:

- Installation of new playing surfaces across all four courts.
- Enhanced spectator seating and viewing areas.
- Refurbishment of player and visitor amenities.
- Replacing the roof and ventilation system
- Installed LED lighting
The upgrade ensures that the stadium meets the evolving needs of the local sporting community while providing a modern, accessible, and safe environment for training and competition.
Basketball NSW, CEO, Maria Nordstrom, welcomed the reopening and acknowledged the importance of investing in regional infrastructure.
“The redeveloped Bathurst Stadium is a game changer for basketball in the Central West,” said Nordstrom.
“These upgrades not only improve the experience for athletes and spectators alike but also provide more opportunities for the sport to grow at all levels. We are grateful to the NSW Government and Bathurst Regional Council for their support and collaboration.”
The Level the Playing Field Program, delivered by the NSW Government, aims to enhance community sports infrastructure across the state. The program supports new and upgraded facilities that enable inclusive participation and provide high-quality environments for community sport.
The reopening of the stadium during the John Martin Country Tournament (Under 16 Boys venue), a key fixture on the regional basketball calendar, highlights its importance as a hub for grassroots development and regional sporting events.
