It is with great pleasure we announce the appointment of Darren Allie to the position of Indigenous, Cultural & linguistically Diverse Programs Manager with Basketball NSW.
A proud Indigenous man himself, Allie will be working closely with our Indigenous and other linguistically diverse organisations to identify strong opportunities for the delivery of basketball programs within their communities.
His impressive career spans over 13 years’ experience in community development through sport and education including a Master of Education (Coach Education) and Diploma of Project Management. Allie will bring a wide and deep range of expertise in incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural perspectives in program design and implementation across multiple organisations.
Previously Allie held a crucial role with AFL Queensland as their State Diversity and Inclusion Manager in which he was fundamental in the development and implementation of the Inclusion pathway for people living with an intellectual impairment and two AFL Queensland’s Reconciliation Action Plans. 
He also held a position with the Department of Communities and Justice and oversaw the engagement with the service sector and local communities, including Aboriginal communities to improve the supply and quality of services.
Allie spoke highly of his new role and expressed his excitement to join the state body for basketball in the state.
“Excited to be part of the team to drive engagement and participation in all communities across NSW,” said Allie.
As part of his role with BNSW, he will also identify barriers to participation for individual Indigenous Communities, and develop strategies to minimise these barriers, while embracing the culture of their Lands and Communities.
Allie will join the team at Basketball NSW commencing Thursday, 25th November and will be taking the reins from NBA bound Jacqui Dover, who will be heading to New York to join the NBA’s referee development program.
