Basketball NSW will host the BNSW Women in Basketball Panel on Sunday, 1 February, bringing together respected voices from Australian and international sport to discuss leadership, inclusion, and opportunities for women in basketball.
This free event will take place in the Hall of Legends from 10:15am to 12:15pm, prior to the Sydney Flames’ 1:00pm home game against Geelong Venom, providing attendees with the opportunity to take part in meaningful discussion before continuing into the game-day experience. CLICK HERE to regsiter.
The panel brings together leading athletes, coaches, and high-performance leaders to celebrate women’s leadership, inclusion, and opportunity in basketball. It will be hosted by Chloe Dalton OAM, a former professional basketball player and multi-sport athlete, who now leads The Female Athlete Project and advocates for women in sport.
Panel Line-Up
- Akec Makur Chuot – Former AFLW player and South Sudanese-Australian athlete, whose inspiring journey from refugee to elite sport has been widely recognised. Featured in ABC’s End Game documentary series, Chuot is a strong advocate for women and girls in sport, particularly those from multicultural and refugee backgrounds.
- Peter Lonergan – One of Australia’s most respected basketball coaches and high-performance leaders, bringing more than 30 years of experience across athlete pathways, coach development, and national junior programs. A long-standing contributor to Basketball Australia, Lonergan is internationally recognised for his work in coaching education and is a passionate advocate for women and girls in basketball.
- Liz Mills – Trailblazing Australian coach with extensive international experience across Africa, Europe, and Asia. Mills made history as the first woman to coach a men’s national team at the FIBA AfroBasket and lead a men’s team to qualification at the tournament. She is Head Coach and co-founder of the Global Women in Basketball Coaching Network.
- Shelley Gorman – One of Australia’s most accomplished women’s basketball athletes, Olympic silver and bronze medallist, and five-time WNBL champion. A former WNBL MVP and Australian Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Gorman now works as a Head Coach and founder of Urban Warriors, empowering women and girls through confidence, strength, and holistic health.
