After a huge four consecutive weekends, the Basketball New South Wales D-League tournament has been hailed as a huge success for everyone involved.

With 480 athletes and over 100 coaches from both Country & Metro NSW, D-League has become a popular highlight on the Basketball NSW High Performance calendar. The aim of the D-League is to identify talented players and coaches, who are competing and coaching within the NSW Spalding Waratah Junior Leagues and assist with their development by having them train, play and coach against each other in a tournament-style environment.

This year D-League also provided the necessary opportunity for Talent ID to evaluate athletes for their development within representative and state based programs for 2023 while also providing education progress for coaches from across the state.

General Manager of Coaching and Development, Brett Coxsedge said he was pleased to see the dedication from all participants and their willingness to learn and grow their skills.

“Our D-League tournament is a highly regarded event on our High Performance calendar each year as it plays a huge role in the development pathway within our sport for not only our athletes but also for our coaches and officials” Coxsedge said.

“This year we had such a large array of metro and country athletes coming together to play and compete against each other in a supportive and learning environment which assists us in building depth within our junior pathways for years to come. I was pleased to see such competitiveness and sportsmanship on display that aligns with the culture we are bringing upon as a state.”

BNSW would like to send a special message of appreciation to all our volunteer coaches as well as a special thank you to all the referees for their tireless efforts over the past month. We would also like to recognise the effort from staff at both Hills Basketball Stadium and the Penrith Regional Valley Sports Centre for their co-operation and use of facilities.

BNSW would like to also thank Momentum Physiotherapy and Health Services for their help with injury prevention, managing injuries and getting athletes back on court over the past four weekends.

Last but not least, BNSW would like to wish the athletes the best of luck with their upcoming representative trials and other basketball activities as the year draws to a close. We look forward to seeing alot of your friendly faces back in action in January when the various BNSW Development Tournaments and Tours will occur again.
