Basketball NSW is excited to announce the opening of Expressions of Interest for the Assist All Hoops (AAH) Advisory Group. This initiative aims to promote and expand basketball opportunities for young people with intellectual impairments across New South Wales.

The formation of the AAH Advisory Group marks a significant step towards fostering inclusivity in community sports. By creating avenues for participation, Basketball NSW seeks to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, age, or abilities, can engage in team-based activities. Community sports not only bring people together but also impart essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.

We are pleased to endorse Robyn Smith, CEO of Sport Inclusion Australia, as the Chair of the AAH Advisory Group. Her leadership and dedication to inclusivity will guide the group in its mission.

The Advisory Group will be established with individuals that have expertise and experience with intellectual impairment from an organisational, community engagement, teaching or personal perspective. The formation of this group is crucial in providing advice, personal insights, and feedback to address several challenges:

  • Identifying new markets to run different programs
  • Program delivery and to review coaches guides
  • Capacity building and upskilling parents, carers and referees
  • Support a clear pathway from grassroots to high-performance programs and State Championships

If you have experience, expertise, or a strong passion for promoting sports for young people with intellectual impairments and are interested in being part of the AAH Advisory Group, please fill out the Expression of Interest HERE.

This is a voluntary role, with meetings held multiple times a year online via Zoom. We especially encourage individuals over the age of 18 with intellectual impairments to apply and share their valuable insights on best practices for inclusion and their experiences in sports.

Should there be a large interest in the Advisory Group, we may conduct online interviews to gather more information and select the best candidates. If you have any questions, please email Gabriel Karagiannis at gabriel.karagiannis@bnsw.com.au.

Closing date: 5:00pm 8th August, 2024

We encourage individuals passionate about making a difference to join us in this important mission. Together, we can build a supportive and inclusive basketball community for all.
