State Coaching and Development Manager BNSW
Basketball NSW is seeking an experienced and passionate leader for its High Performance team. This Coaching and Development manager role forms a crucial role in our leadership team which is focused on growth of the game of Basketball in NSW. The role is full-time and is located in Homebush, NSW.
New South Wales Basketball is the governing body of basketball in the state of NSW, Australia. Our vision is for basketball to be the sport of choice for families in NSW, respected as a Tier 1 sport by all its stakeholders, impacting and supporting local, social and community goals in all areas of NSW making it everyone’s game.

This role is an integral part of BNSW’s business and reports the CEO and is part of BNSW’s leadership team.
MAJOR DUTIES
Lead and manage all activities in relation, but not limited to:
- Lead and develop Athlete High Performance and Development Programs for NSW following Basketball Australia’s style of play.
- Continuously review and improve Coach and Athlete Talent ID processes for both Metro and Country NSW.
- Oversee Coach Development & Education – From Community, Club to Association coaching levels.
- Oversee and improve Player Development Programs and Talent ID process with High Performance Coaches.
- Lead and work with selection panel to select coaches, assistance coaches and managers for State teams each year.
- Lead the team in selecting State and Ivor Burge Teams each year through a Talent ID process, published selection criteria and trial(s).
- Lead delegation at each National Junior Championship with members of the team.
- Develop, manage and review MOUs with partners such as Sporting High Schools, Regional Academies of Sport & Other Partnerships
- Lead delivery and improvements of development programs in Metro and regional NSW.
- Lead and manage Coaching team staff day-to-day including professional development of the staff.
- Lead or participate in Working Group(s) relevant to High Performance and Development.
- Work with CFO and CEO to setup robust budgets and KPIs for team and individual team members for each year
- Manage Budgets and provide reporting monthly on team performance
- Manage Complaints in a fair, timely and transparent manner.
- Adhere and manage team and staff to safe coaching practices and support a Child Safe Environment.
- Be involved in developing BNSW Strategic Plan and create a subset of such plan for Coach and player development function.
- Produce and implement policies relevant to function.
- Liaise with Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.
- Expand pathways and partnerships.
- The role is part of BNSW Senior Leadership team.
EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES RELEVANT TO ROLE
- Previous experience in similar role with a proven success record.
- Strong leadership and coaching background.
- Strong background in developing and implementation of player development programs based on Basketball Australia’s style of play.
- Strong background in coach development and education with a good understanding of Basketball Australia’s style of play.
- Experienced in operational management, budgeting and reporting.
- Proven experience in Talent ID management and processes.
- Partner and contract management experience.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Strong written skills.
The role requires work on weekends, early mornings and evenings. As it is a state based role it does require travel. The team has 3 other members; 2 High Performance Coaches and 1 person dedicated to Coach Education and Development.
BNSW package includes a Base Salary, Car Allowance, Leave loading and statutory Superannuation.
