Basketball NSW proudly hosted the inaugural Metro Jamboree from 29th September – 1st October 2025 at Sutherland Basketball Stadium, marking an exciting milestone for the state’s Under 12 basketball NSW pathway.

The event brought together 8 boys’ teams and 8 girls’ teams, with athletes selected from various U12 Skills Days held across metropolitan Sydney. The Jamboree concept, long established in Country regions, was introduced to Metro this year for the first time, giving young players a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the game in a fun and inclusive environment.

Unlike traditional competitions, the Jamboree placed emphasis on skill development and enjoyment rather than winning. Over three days, players were challenged to try new techniques, learn from different coaches, and showcase their abilities in multiple games.

The on-court action was complemented by a series of off-court education sessions, designed to build confidence and deepen players’ understanding of the game. Coaches also benefited from a free coaches’ clinic, ensuring that the learning experience extended beyond the athletes. The girls’ teams were also treated to a special Grit for Girls session, empowering participants through a focus on resilience, confidence, and leadership skills that extend well beyond the basketball court.

The event also welcomed representatives from the Sydney Flames, with Lauren Nicholson the event ambassador and Caitlyn Martin joining as a head coach for the Jamboree to take part in the fun. Their presence gave participants the chance to interact with elite-level role models and elevated the experience over the three days.

BNSW extends a sincere thank you to all the participants, coaches, referees, referee coaches, and volunteers whose hard work ensured a smooth and memorable event. Their contribution was vital in providing opportunities for young athletes and match officials to grow in the game.

Special recognition goes to Sutherland Basketball Association, whose staff and venue played a pivotal role in hosting the Jamboree and creating a welcoming environment for all. BNSW also would like to acknowledge the support of its valued partners iAthletic & Soul Sports.

The launch of the Metro Jamboree is a significant step forward in expanding Basketball NSW’s development pathway. By offering a platform that celebrates learning, teamwork, and participation, the Jamboree helps nurture the next generation of basketballers both on and off the court.
