Basketball NSW has made some exciting changes to the format and dates for D-League for 2024.
After reviewing the program, D-League will operate across one weekend for age groups, consisting of two consecutive days of training and competition play.
Basketball NSW, General Manager of Coaching and Development, Brett Coxsedge thinks the changes will be seen as a positive move with athletes, families and coaches/referees.
“It was necessary to make some changes to D-League given the current climate. Our goal was to reduce the travel component on athletes and parents by conducting D-League over two weekends only (one weekend only per age group),” said Coxsedge.
“The new change will allow coaches to build on what is taught on day one into day two. In the past, playing over two separate Sundays meant some learning was lost due to the break in-between. We feel the new change will allow more knowledge to be retained by the athletes whilst also teaching them the importance of being able to play on consecutive days which is a common occurrence nowadays in BNSW competitions and National Championships.”
The aim of the D-League is to identify talented players and coaches, who are competing and coaching within the NSW Spalding Waratah Junior Leagues, and assist with their development by having them train, play and coach against each other in a tournament-style environment.
The new dates and age groups for D-League in 2024 are:
- 28th and 29th September (Penrith) – U16 Boys & Girls (born 2010) and U18 Boys & Girls (born 2008/2009)
- 26th and 27th October (Penrith) – U14 Boys & Girls (born 2012) and U15 Boys & Girls (born 2011)
