FIBA WOMENS BASKETBALL WORLD CUP 2022
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup is the world’s largest international women’s basketball competition and one of the most prestigious titles in the sport. This major event will feature the world’s best players representing 12 basketball powerhouse nations from across FIBA’s regions – Asia & Oceania, Americas, Africa and Europe.
ABOUT FIBA
The Federation International Basketball (FIBA) is the association of National Federations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide. Following a competitive bid, Basketball Australia and the NSW Government were awarded the rights to host the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 at Sydney Olympic Park from 22 September to 1 October 2022.
FIBA WOMENS BASKETBALL WORLD CUP 2022 LOCAL ORGANSING COMMITTEE (LOC)
Basketball Australia partnered with NSW Government through its major events and tourism agency, Destination NSW and the Office of Sport to win the rights in March 2020 to host the Women’s Basketball World Cup as part of the NSW Government’s 10 World Cups in 10 years initiative. Basketball Australia established a Local Organising Committee, as a wholly owned subsidiary, to deliver this prestigious event. This World Cup will be one of the first major international events to be held in Australia in 2022 (22 September to 1 October 2022) and comes at an unprecedented time for our country, following devastating bushfires and COVID-19 pandemic. This global sporting event will contribute to Australia’s long-term recovery due to the economic and social benefits this event will deliver, along with continuing the powerful message of gender equality and focus on women’s sport.
We want this event to reimagine and reinvigorate Basketball, and specifically Women’s Basketball, in Australia and the Region. We want to create an atmosphere that is cool, edgy and funky with activations, communications and promotions in the lead up and during to the event that achieves our vision of igniting the passion for women’s basketball globally.

POSITION: HOSPITALITY MANAGER
Under the guidance of the General Manager – Commercial for the Local Organising Committee (LOC), you will support the implementation of the corporate and VIP hospitality programs for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in line with the overall Commercial Strategy and LOC Strategic Plan.
As Hospitality Manager you will initially focus on supporting the GM Commercial in finalising the corporate hospitality offering prior to tickets on sale and in collaboration with our Ticketing Manager ensuring that seating inventory is catered for. As we move through the sales process your focus will be on working with the venues on the product offerings and will include full responsibility for servicing our local partners and FIBA’s global partner VIP hospitality programs in the lead up to and during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.
You are an experienced sales and servicing hospitality professional with demonstrated experience in a sports and entertainment or events environment. The successful applicant will have a talent for creating and implementing hospitality for major events. Creating value for clients, attention to detail and working with stakeholders at all levels, problem solving and a strong commitment to providing superior customer service are all expected skills. The Hospitality Manager must work well under pressure and be committed to working in a team environment. The role requires an individual to have a strong understanding and
experience in the hospitality events landscape, VIP product offerings, with a proven ability to work alongside a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Your attention to detail and customer service skills are second to none to ensure the hospitality experience end-to-end is outstanding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Hospitality Manager will be expected to:
- Finalise the hospitality programs with the GM Commercial
- Manage the corporate hospitality modelling/forecasting
- Manage the programs supplier negotiations and agreements
- Discuss and identify individual marketing and business objectives with targeted companies. • Structure and develop bespoke corporate suite and hospitality proposals with our sales partners and official travel agents
- Work closely with FIBA marketing and commercial partnerships teams to deliver their corporate hospitality requirements
- Identify and pursue leads in order to support GM Commercial in securing high value hospitality deals for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in conjunction with sales agents
- Maintain and develop knowledge of the sporting events hospitality industry trends, experiences, sales prices and applicable industry standards
- Responsible for managing and implementation of the corporate hospitality plan
- Responsible for managing and implementation of the VIP hospitality plan
- Work closely with our venues and hospitality sales partners
- Manage the sponsor benefits hospitality inventory management program with the Sponsorship Manager
- Responsible for the implementation of hospitality benefits and servicing from onboarding, during and post event reporting with the sponsorship manager
- Working with the GM Commercial forecasting on regular financial updates and sales reporting • Managing the hospitality ticketing and fulfillment requirements
- Primary relationship manager for hospitality with the key stakeholders
- Managing the hospitality legal/contracting obligations
- Attend team and event planning/debrief meetings to represent the hospitality department • In collaboration with GM Commercial supply LOC Executive Team and CEO with relevant hospitality information, and reports as required
- Create relevant event hospitality related policies/request procedures
- Develop and deliver post event hospitality reporting for stakeholders
- Manage the hospitality team including Hospitality Coordinator
- Work with the Sustainability Manager to create and implement a sustainable hospitality program

SELECTION CRITERIA
In addition to demonstrating relevant experiences across the core functional areas of responsibility identified in this Position Overview, candidates applying for the Hospitality Manager role will require a range of personal and professional skills, including:
Essential
- Considerable experience in a managerial hospitality role is essential for success in this position • Previous hospitality experience within a major event, venue or sporting organisation • Previous experience in managing and delivering corporate hospitality in the Australian sports marketplace or relevant event experience
- Knowledge of event planning and coordination, equipment, and practices typical to the sport and entertainment industry
- A demonstrated and strong commitment to exceptional customer service
- Proven ability to work in a high-pressured environment, with competing priorities, stakeholders and deadlines
- Proven track record in conceiving and developing unique corporate hospitality experiences • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, planning and scheduling skills
- High level of all round communication and presentation skills
- Display sound decision-making skills to solve problems and conflicts effectively whilst remaining calm under pressure
- Proficient with Microsoft Office with emphasis on Word and Excel
- Strong project management disciplines inclusive of the ability to prioritise at peak times, multitask and meet strict deadlines
Desirable
- Knowledge of the sport of basketball
LOCATION
Flexible working arrangements will be discussed however the FWBWC22 LOC office will be located in Sydney Olympic Park from February 2022.
HOURS OF WORK
Due to the nature of the position, weekend work and extended hours may be required from time to time.
REMUNERATION
The remuneration package is negotiable depending upon skill level and experiences.
TIMELINES
Applications close 5pm AEST Monday, 7th February 2022. Interviews and appointment will occur in February 2022 and it is expected that the Hospitality Manager will commence in March 2022.
TERM
The successful candidate will be employed under a full-time contract to 21 October 2022. This is subject to funding and may be extended. In addition, a three-month probationary period will be included in the contract.
