The SDBA General Manager is responsible for the operations of Sutherland Basketball Stadium and general business of the Sutherland District Basketball Association. Ensuring efficient day to day management of the stadium, maximising utilisation and effective leadership and management of both staff and stakeholder relationships are key components of the role.   

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Highly self-motivated and ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, discretion and judgement to perform duties independently, managing multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management and marketing of a sporting/recreational facility/facilities, a qualification relevant to business management and/or the operations of a sporting facility would be highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership within a team environment and maintain positive stakeholder relationship. 
  • Exceptional time management skills, with proven ability to effectively plan and organise, whilst also being adaptive to meet changing priorities and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with a broad range of stakeholders, demonstrating sound problem solving skills. 
  • Proven financial management skills, with experience in the development and monitoring of budgets.
  • Proficient computer skills, practical knowledge of POS systems, web based applications and venue management software applicable to the operation of a sporting centre.
  • Sound understanding of risk management principles and work health and safety practices in a sports facility context.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development of the SDBA’s operational strategy and be responsible for its implementation, including regular reporting of performance
  • Drive and lead the staff team (including volunteers) and oversee all operational matters
  • Represent the interests of the SDBA and basketball in general to State and Local Government entities, the Education sector, community groups, members, sponsors and other key stakeholders
  • Generate increased income through seeking appropriate sponsorship, grants and funding;
  • Develop a communications and engagement strategy that builds membership levels and community relationships;
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and business acumen to ensure the ongoing growth of a strategic vision, increased commercial presence, sponsorship initiation and delivery
  • Lead, manage and build capability to effectively and efficiently support operational success through the provisions of conflict resolution, negotiation, presentation, financial, and business skills
  • Secretarial and governance duties as required in running a not-for-profit basketball association

Additional Information:

  • Applicant must obtain National Police Certificate.
  • The position will allow for flexible working arrangements which suit the business model of the association
  • Position offered on a 3-year fixed term contract.
