NEW SOUTH WALES BASKETBALL 

New South Wales Basketball is the governing body of basketball in the state of NSW, Australia. Our vision is for basketball to unite communities by enabling participants to realise their potential through every level of the game. 

The Volunteer Program Manager assists BNSW by contributing to the overall purpose, goals and objectives of the organisation. 

NBL1 EAST 

NBL1 is a semi-professional basketball league with conferences representing the different states of Australia. NBL1 East is the league that covers New South Wales. 2022 will be the inaugural year of NBL1 East. 

KEY AREAS OF ASSISTANCE

  • Liaise with BNSW to formulate the NBL1 East Panel
  • Coordinate and prepare rostering of officials in line with policies and procedures.
  • Recommend referees to elite level 
  • Facilitate last minute changes in official rostering due to volunteer unavailability
  • Provide feedback and review of the competition in relation to referees at the end of the season
  • Roster referee travel/accommodation to allow adequate coverage of all regions within the travel budget allocated each year.
  • Be an active member of the BNSW Referees Coaching Panel.
  • Liaise and work closely with the BNSW Referee Instructor Program Manager for rostering and development of Referee Instructors .
  •  Be a member of the BNSW Referees Advisory Committee and selection panel.
  •  Attend BNSW Referees Action Day/s, and assist with Regional Action Days.
  • Assess feedback regarding officials’ performance and liaise with referee coaches where appropriate.
  • Recommend referees to be selected for finals in line with BNSW’s selection policy
  • Liaise with the BNSW Referee Instructor Program Manager re appointment of Referee Instructors to finals.
  • Nominate Senior League Referee of the year candidates to BNSW for selection for the BNSW annual awards
  • Collaborate with the Waratah League Program Manager

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Essential 

  • National Development (Level 3) Referee (Active or Retired) and/or State Level Referee Instructor 
  • Registered Member of Basketball NSW 
  • Technical understanding of NBL1 by-laws, guidelines and the current FIBA rules
  • Meets the requirements of the current BNSW Selection Policy for Officials
  • Valid Working with Children Check 
  • Valid Drivers Licence 
  • Problem Solving Skills 
  • People Management 
  • Conflict Management 
  • Organisation Skills 
  • Time Management Skills 
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills 
  • Client Focused 

Desirable 

  • Excel Skills 
  • Knowledge of Efficialtec 

TIME COMMITMENT REQUESTED 

During the NBL1 East Season (April – August), an estimated 5 to 10 hours an average per week is expected. NBL1 East games will take place on Saturday and Sundays throughout the duration of the season. 

Basketball NSW is committed to Volunteering Australia’s National Standard for Involving Volunteers and will address any instance where the time spent by volunteers in supporting the organisation becomes excessive. 

TRAINING PROVIDED 

The Volunteer Program Manager will receive an induction which will go through the policies and procedures applicable to the area of support. 

EQUIPMENT PROVIDED 

A volunteer in this role will be provided with a mobile phone to enable them to address questions from the volunteers and participants in the league. 

OTHER 

All out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed by BNSW. Accommodation, if required, will be booked by BNSW on behalf of the volunteer.
