With preparations underway for the 2025 VIRTUS World Basketball Championships, the Australian Pearls have named a 14-player squad, featuring some of the country’s top athletes in the Ivor Burge program.

Basketball NSW is proud to announce that four NSW Ivor Burge Women have been selected in the squad, Brittany Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Ruby Thomson and Mackenzie Wills.

These athletes were instrumental in securing bronze for NSW at the 2024 Foot Locker National Championships in Ballarat, where Brittany Anderson was also recognised as the Foot Locker Defensive Player of the Tournament.

The squad will take its next step toward the World Championships with a three-day selection camp at the AIS in March, before heading to Astana, Kazakhstan for the tournament in June.

Head Coach Larry Davidson, recently returned from the Australian Ivor Burge Championships in Ballarat, explained how difficult it was to reduce the squad.

“This year we are focused on building a very strong team culture.  We have entered two 3×3 teams and are hoping for several training opportunities prior to the June World Championships,” said Davidson.

“Performances at the Australian Championship were terrific to watch, with some very close games, showcasing the skills of our players.”
