Basketball Australia have announced the teams selected to represent the Australian Wombats at the 2025 IWBF 3×3 Asia Oceania Cup, to be held from 19th to the 23rd of June  Hangzhou, China.

Australia will be represented by three teams, two women’s teams and one men’s team.

The tournament format allows multiple teams per country, giving Australia an opportunity to develop young athletes while leaning on experienced leaders.

Basketball NSW is proud to announce the selection of five standout representatives from New South Wales who have earned their place in the national squad:

Breanna Fisk, Victoria Simpson, Jessica Cronje, Maryanne Latu & Luke Pople.

In wheelchair basketball, players are classified on a point scale from 1.0 to 4.5 based on their functional ability, with lower-point players having a higher degree of impairment. These players are integral to team balance and strategy, and contribute with sharp decision-making, speed, and strong court vision.

“It’s great to see the two low-pointers out of NSW hit the stage, and to have Breanna, as a tall low-point player, able to utilise her skills and height at that level,” said Rob Pike, Head Coach of the program.

“Maryanne and Jess are both very experienced, and I’m looking forward to seeing them show their leadership. Izzy has been around the Gliders program for a long time, and I’m excited to watch her be that key player who can lead from the front.”

On the men’s side, Paralympian and 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Luke Pople will anchor a young and dynamic team.

“Luke is probably our most experienced 3×3 wheelchair player in Australia. He won a gold medal at the last Commonwealth Games, so I’m really looking forward to seeing step up and show his leadership,” said Pike.

“The rest of the line-up is relatively young so I’m really keen to give them a chance to show the rest of the world that they’re good quality basketballers who can compete with the best in our region.”

With back-to-back games across two action-packed days, the Australian teams will take on a diverse mix of nations from across the Asian-Pacific region including Cambodia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Malaysia, China, Japan, Iran, Thailand, and the Philippines.
