Media Release: Basketball Australia
Basketball Australia has announced a 20-player squad set to attend a national selection camp at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra, as preparations intensify for the 2025 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup in Lausanne, Switzerland (28 June – 6 July).
Basketball NSW is proud to congratulate the following athletes on their selection to the Emus squad:
Emmett Adair (Norths Bears), Goc Malek (Blacktown Storm) & James Dyson Merwe (City of Sydney Comets).
We also extend our congratulations to: Robbie McKinlay (Sutherland Sharks/CoE), named as Head Coach & Jacob Jackomas (City of Sydney Comets), selected as Assistant Coach.
The training camp, scheduled for May, will provide an opportunity for players to impress the coaching staff, led by McKinlay, before the final 12-player roster is confirmed for the World Cup campaign.
Australia has a proud history at the FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup, having qualified for 15 of 17 tournaments since the competition’s inception in 1979. The Emus remain the only nation outside of Europe and North America to win the prestigious title. Since their historic championship, the team’s best finishes include two fourth-place results, achieved in 2009 and 2013.
Basketball NSW congratulates all selected players and coaches and wishes them the very best as they compete for a place on the final team to represent Australia on the world stage.
