Media Release: Basketball Australia
Basketball Australia are announcing the Gems squad for the upcoming 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Czechia from 12 – 20 July, 2025.
Basketball NSW is proud to congratulate the following athletes on their selection to the Gems squad:
Jade Crook (Albury Cougars), Erica Finney (Norths Bears), Ruby Perkins (Norths Bears) & Callie Hinder (NSW).
We also congratulate Renae Garlepp (Norths Bears/Sydney Flames), named as Head Coach.
Head Coach Renae Garlepp and her staff will utilise an upcoming camp at the AIS from 12 – 15 May to analyse and refine a talented Gems squad ahead of the tournament in July.
Historically, the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup tournament has been one of Australia’s strongest proving grounds.
In 1993, Australia’s women delivered a dominant series with Michelle Brogan leading an undefeated Gems team on the way to gold.
Since the South Korea sweep, the Gems have added three silver and two bronze medals.
In more recent history, the Gems have finished in amongst the medals in four of the past six tournaments, however a 9th placed finish in Madrid at the last hit-out sets the stage for redemption for the program.
