NSW referees Matt Beattie and Scott Beker have been nominated by FIBA to officiate at the FIBA Men’s Asia Cup in Beirut, Lebanon from the 6th to 21st August 2017.

“This is a fabulous achievement and recognition of their performances throughout the recent season and previous FIBA appointments”, said John Reardon the National Referee Instructor for Basketball Australia.

Beattie (FIBA-active since 2009) is a 215 NBL game veteran.  Matt is no stranger to the international arena, he recently officiated at the FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2017 in Cairo (Egypt) and also officiated at the U19 FIBA Women’s World Championships, he worked the NBA Summer League in 2015, the Stankovic Cup in 2014 and some junior European Championships.

Beker (FIBA-active since 2005) is one of Australia’s most experienced basketball referees, spanning over 15 years in the NBL and a significant international career. Scott recently represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Olympics, following successful representation at many international events. Scott has worked two Universiade tournaments (men’s gold medal in 2015), 2009 U19 Mens World Championships (gold medal), 2007 U19 Womens World Championships (SF), and 2010 Stankovic Cup in China. In Australia’s National Basketball League, he has officiated every finals series since 2008/09 including the Grand Final in 2014/15.

Basketball NSW would like to congratulate both Matt and Scott on their appointments to the FIBA Men’s Asia Cup.
