Basketball NSW officially launched its 2024/25 State Performance Program (SPP) with a highly successful induction camp held last weekend at Hills Basketball Stadium.

More than 200 athletes and 35 coaches participated in the two-day event, which featured intensive training sessions, physical assessments, and educational presentations.

This year’s camp was particularly special, as it marked the first time the SPP wheelchair squad joined their peers for both on-court activities and classroom sessions.

The SPP is designed to develop and support individual skill growth and team concepts that are required to compete successfully at the National Championships and on the international level.

Basketball NSW, General Manager of Coaching and Development, Brett Coxsedge was thrilled with the success of the camp.

“It was exciting to have both country and metro athletes and coaches under the one roof working hard to commence our SPP for 2024/25,” said Coxsedge.

“Better still, bringing our SPP wheelchair squad into the mix added a whole new level of athlete and coach development for our state. We look forward to seeing the progress made by everyone involved over the coming year.”

As part of the weekend, Basketball NSW brought in a range of experts to assist with both on-court and off-court activities, ensuring a comprehensive experience for the athletes:

  • All athletes underwent physical testing led by Julian Soco from Hoops Sports Performance.
  • Well-being and athlete management seminars were conducted by Damien Thomson from BNSW affiliated partner Sportly.Me.
  • Tim Hill from BNSW supporting partner All Aussie Travellers provided information seminars for athletes and parents about player pathways.
  • Adam Messenger and his team from BNSW preferred suppliers Momentum Physiotherapy and Health Services provided medical coverage to keep athletes on court.

Basketball NSW would like to also thank Hills Basketball Association for hosting the camp as well as our association coaches for sharing their time to assist in athlete development.

The SPP operates during school terms 4 and 1, with weekly training sessions commencing in the next week in both Country and Metro regions. One-day training “muster” camps will also occur in regional NSW, whilst the metro squad members of the SPP wheelchair squad will also come together again in Sydney.
