Over 100 of NSW’s brightest young basketball talents from both Country and Metro converged at Penrith Regional Valley Sports Stadium this week for the 2025 U14 Talented Athlete Program (TAP), an intensive three-day camp designed to push, challenge and elevate the next generation of players.

With a focus on both on-court development and off-court education, TAP continues to be a key stepping stone in Basketball NSW’s High Performance pathway, connecting regional and metro athletes with expert coaches, industry professionals, and a competitive peer group.

TAP is not your average basketball camp. Built around the Australian Style of Play, the program dives deep into advanced skill development, decision-making under pressure, and team play concepts.

Athletes also take part in sessions on sports psychology, injury prevention, scouting and recovery strategies, equipping them with tools to thrive on and off the court. This year’s U14 cohort showed exceptional potential and a hunger to learn, setting a strong tone for what’s ahead.

Next week, it’s the U13 athletes’ turn to step into the High Performance space and show what they’re made of.

Basketball NSW’s, General Manager of Coaching & Development, Brett Coxsedge, said the 2025 TAP program continues to evolve and impress.

“The depth of talent on display this week was outstanding,” said Coxsedge. “TAP is where many athletes take their first real step into high-performance basketball. We’ve seen Opals, Boomers and professional players get their start right here, and with Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, we could very well be seeing the early stages of a future Olympian’s journey.”

Delivering a camp of this calibre takes a team effort. Basketball NSW extends its appreciation to the support staff, venue crew and guest presenters who made the U14 TAP camp a success.

Special thanks to Daniel Banganay from Momentum Physiotherapy and Health Services for sharing injury prevention exercises and recovery tips to the athletes.

We also would like to say thank you to our dedicated coaching team for their energy, expertise and commitment:

Luke Boyle (Maitland Mustangs), Shaye Evans (Maitland Mustangs), Anneal Goodier (Central Coast Waves), Xander Hearly (Batemans Bay Breakers), Cristi Juffermans (Coffs Harbour Suns), Cooper Avery (Bankstown Bruins), Jeremy Jones (Bankstown Bruins), Jordan Kelleher (Taree Tornadoes) & Zacchary Maloney (Wagga Wagga Heat).

With the U13 TAP camp up next, the 2025 program is already shaping up to be one of the most impactful in recent years. Basketball NSW remains committed to providing young athletes with the tools, experiences, and guidance they need to reach their full potential, wherever their basketball journey may lead.
