Basketball NSW would like to share that this weekend across our Spalding Waratah Metro Junior Leagues will be our Indigenous Round as part of the Naidoc Week celebrations across Australia.
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
The Spalding Waratah Metro Junior League Indigenous Round will acknowledge the significant contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to basketball in NSW and the broader basketball community. By acknowledging the contribution, Basketball aims to highlight the importance of respect for Indigenous Peoples and their cultures which are prominent in our game.
Basketball NSW is committed to working with Indigenous communities to address and tackle the barriers that face basketball participants in being able to take part in and enjoy our game.
In partnership with our apparel partner iAthletic, you can now purchase Official Basketball NSW aboriginal artwork merchandise that features aboriginal artist Jordan Ardler’s artwork as well as specialised designed socks to mark the round.
Profits from the sale of these items will be split between an organisation close to Jordan’s heart and local Aboriginal organisations in the area where the round is being held.

Basketball NSW will also be facaliliating an Indigenous Round the following week on the 9th & 10th of July for our Spalding Waratah Senior League and Coles Express NBL1 East clashes.
Durning the school holidays we will also be partnering with Indigenous Basketball Australia and running a number of free NAIDOC 3×3 Basketball Carnivals across the state.
