Basketball NSW (BNSW) is pleased to welcome Steve Clark as our Head of Technical Officials.
Steve will oversee the delivery of the Basketball NSW Officials Strategic Plan (this includes referees, scoretable officials and statisticians), plus managing our network of instructors and raising the standard of officials education across the State.
Steve brings decades of experience to the role, a former National Rugby League (NRL) referee with 314 games, 8 test matches, 5 State of Origins and 2 World Cup matches.
Basketball NSW CEO Maria Nordstrom said, “Firstly, I would like to thank the representatives of both FIBA and Basketball Australia who were members of the interview panel.”
“Steve’s on-field experiences as an elite official are transferable to any sport; we were also equally impressed with his off-field experiences in working in the areas of education and development of officials plus being an advocate for female roles in sport and senior roles within business”.
“Basketball NSW is aiming to achieve 100,000 + registered members by 2025. We are also aiming to expand the number of teams participating in representative basketball, which means we need to increase the number of technical officials we have to service our game. We are confident that Steve will play an integral role in this aim being achieved”.
“Steve has a strong understanding of the importance of retention along with strategies to recruit new officials, plus implementing development programs at the grassroots level through to the State level. We are looking forward to his expertise in finalising the Basketball NSW Officials Strategic Plan and then leading this plan across the State”.
Steve said,” I am honoured to be appointed to the role of Head of Technical Officials at Basketball New South Wales, and I am very much looking forward to working with all Officials at Basketball New South Wales.”
Steve Clark commences his employment with Basketball NSW on Monday 9th of August, 2021.
