The recently concluded 2023 Basketball NSW State Conference proved to be a resounding success, bringing together basketball enthusiasts, administrators, and stakeholders from across the state to discuss and shape the future of the sport. The event held in Wollongong and sponsored by V-Insurance & iAthletic, featured a dynamic agenda that addressed critical aspects of basketball development, inclusion and governance.

Friday night kicked off the conference with an inspiring opening address from the Chair of the event, Danica McCarthy, setting the tone for the discussions that followed throughout the three days.

The conference agenda was carefully curated to cover a range of topics aimed at enhancing the overall basketball experience in the state. Among the highlights were sessions on the business of basketball, infrastructure, leadership and a walk-through of the Technical Officials High-Level Plan.

One of the key focal points was the discussion panel on inclusivity and diversity within the basketball community. The conference addressed the importance of creating a welcoming and supportive environment for players, coaches, and members from all backgrounds. Strategies to promote gender equality and accessibility were also explored, aligning with Basketball NSW’s commitment to fostering an inclusive basketball culture. Delegates had the opportunity to engage with industry experts and share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the sport with both the General Manager of NBL1, Dean Aglin and Office of Sport, Karen Jones presenting on topics curated for the attendees.

In addition to the informative sessions, the conference provided a platform for networking and collaboration. Delegates had the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, fostering partnerships that will contribute to the growth of basketball across the state.

Reflecting on the success of the event, CEO Maria Nordstrom expressed gratitude to all the delegates for their active participation.

“The 2023 State Conference has been a tremendous success because of the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone involved. It’s heartening to see the basketball community come together to shape the future of our sport”, said Nordstrom.

“I am confident that the ideas and strategies discussed here will have a lasting impact on basketball in New South Wales.”

On Saturday evening, Basketball NSW also held their 2023 Hall of Fame induction ceremony with all the association delegates present for the event as well as the Annual Awards on the Sunday afternoon.

Basketball NSW extends its sincere thanks to all the delegates, speakers, and partners who contributed to the success of the 2023 State Conference.
