What do you get when you bring 100 of the most promising athletes together for three days of basketball? An intense but fun training environment where both Country and Metro boys and girls can receive expert teaching and advice from Basketball NSW High Performance coaching staff along with selected network coaches from Associations across NSW.

The Talented Athlete Program (TAP) is a single camp-based program that aims to expose selected athletes to the NSW/Australian Style of Play and concepts of play whilst also providing educational opportunities for athletes in the fields of sports psychology, injury prevention an effective rehabilitation exercises.

This past week, Basketball NSW held its U14 TAP camp at Camellia Indoor Sports Centre. Next week it will be the U13 age group’s turn to showcase their level of skill and talent in what is one of the most prestigious development programs that Basketball NSW operates.

Basketball NSW, General Manager of Coaching and Development, Brett Coxsedge said he was extremely excited with what he saw at the U14 camp this week.

“TAP plays an important role in the development pathway for both Country and Metro athletes,” said Coxsedge.

“The camp-based program has a long rich tradition of breeding the next stars of our game, with some Opals and Boomers having started their journey at TAP. Who knows, maybe we will have unearthed someone from this camp who will go on to represent Australia at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics!”

Basketball NSW would like to thank all those responsible for making this and next week’s TAP camps a success. This includes Karen Haddad (Performance Psychologist), Adam Messenger from Momentum Physiotherapy and Health Services, the staff at Camellia Indoor Sports Centre as well as the following coaching staff who passed on their expertise to the athletes on court.
