Gordon James Rintoul sadly passed away on Wednesday 14th September aged 85 years.

Gordon originally from Cowra moved to the City and coached, but really came into his own when settling in Newcastle where he was to hold a position of the Board of the Newcastle Basketball Association.

A NSW State Coach and Selector Gordon was able to coach many of the up and coming junior men in the late 50’s early 60’s.

Coach of the NSW Under 18 men’s team to the Australian Junior Championships from 1959 to 1963 as well as being a selector for the period 1959 to 1964.

Gordon went onto the coach the Open Men’s team in 1964, a team containing such athletes as the Late John Gardner, Terry Charlton, Ken Cole, Ross Graham, Denis Kibble, Carl Rodwell, Alan Jones, Harry Firkin, Ron Hooper, Albert Leslie and Paul and Peter Brettell whilst Bob Elphinston was Gordon’s assistant coach.

Basketball will sadly miss Gordon as his contribution to Basketball in those early 50’ and 60’s was significant.

On behalf of the Basketball NSW Board, members and Staff we would like to pass on our condolences to Gordon’s family, he was a dearly beloved husband, father, brother, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle.

Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend a celebration of Gordon’s life at Lake Macquarie Memorial Park, 405 Cessnock Road, Ryhope on Tuesday 27th September 2016 a 2pm.
