Basketball NSW is excited to announce the launch of the Community Basketball Coach Program, a 12-month initiative designed specifically to support and empower community coaches through structured learning, connection, and on-court experience.
The program is designed to bridge the gap between coaching theory and practical application, providing community coaches with a supportive environment to upskill and grow. Participants will have access to tailored tools, resources, and expert guidance to enhance their skills and confidence. These new skills will be applied through on-court coaching opportunities within BNSW programs, supported by mentoring from experienced leaders in the game.
Running from September 2025 to August 2026, the program will guide coaches through the full coaching cycle, from pre-season planning to in-season reflection and refinement.
Part 1 – Pre-Season (September – January)
- Coaching fundamentals and skill development
- Load management and planning
- Team selection, goal setting, and session design
- Special topics, including coaching women and girls
Part 2 – In-Season (February – August)
- Game-day coaching strategies
- Team development and player management
- Reflection, evaluation, and continuous improvement
Program Inclusions
- Monthly development sessions with expert guest speakers, delivered online and in-person.
- Structured resources tailored to each stage of the season.
- An on-court coaching opportunity within a BNSW program, with mentoring from experienced coaches.
- Peer networking and access to a supportive coaching community, including a dedicated female coaching pathway.
Who Should Apply?
The program is open to community coaches aged 18 and over, from all experience levels, who are passionate about developing their skills and contributing to the growth of basketball in NSW.Two streams will be offered:
- Community Stream (open to all coaches)
- Female Coaching Pathway (dedicated to female coaches)
