Basketball NSW (BNSW) today announced Champions League Basketball (CLB) as their ‘Official 3 x 3 partner’ to conduct 3 x 3 events in New South Wales.

BNSW CEO Maria Nordstrom was excited to partner with CLB.

“We are excited to welcome Champions League Basketball as our official partner to conduct 3 x 3 events in NSW.  3 x 3 basketball is widely considered to be globally the number one urban team sport and we are excited that CLB will complement our strategy to grow the game of basketball in NSW”.

“In June of this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that 3 x 3 basketball is now a part of the Olympic Basketball program starting with Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.  This announcement brings a new focus on the 3 x 3 game and will bring new opportunities and interest to the game of basketball globally, nationally and right here in NSW”.

CLB General Manager Matthew Hollard added.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with a state body that not only has a clear vision on what they want to achieve with basketball as a whole, but also sees what we see regarding the potential 3 x 3 has on Australia and our players both present and future.  As a team we will be working hard to increase both the female and male participation numbers and see Australia eventually make it’s mark on the 3 x 3 world stages”.

The partnership also extends to BNSW member associations, who can conduct their own 3 x 3 events, with winners progressing to compete in State 3 x 3 conducted events.

“BNSW and CLB will provide our associations with a 3 x 3 pack for conducting 3 x 3 events over the coming weeks.  All 3 x 3 events should be registered through CLB to maximise Australia’s points towards international qualifications and FIBA 3 x 3 rankings” added Maria Nordstrom.

Australia is currently ranked as the 56th Federation in the World with 2,081,019 points, the number 1 Federation is Serbia with 24,988,455 points.

3 x 3 events can be staged indoors and outdoors and at local basketball stadiums or in iconic locations, the goal of 3 x 3 is to bring basketball directly to the people with an urban festival atmosphere.  Basketball NSW will be working with both local councils and our associations to conduct 3 x 3 events at iconic locations right across the State.
