Following the cancellation of the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup (ACJBC) and the Southern Cross Challenge (SCC) Tournaments in January, Basketball NSW (BNSW) has also made the decision to cancel the East Coast Challenge (ECC) Tournament.

Without a clear return to interstate travel due to current border restrictions, the possibility of the above Tournaments proceeding was not possible given the guidelines that the various States are currently having to adhere to.

Traditionally, the month of January has always played a pivotal role in BNSW’s Development and High-Performance Pathways. BNSW is keen to continue to offer opportunities for athletes, coaches and referees (officials) by implementing alternative options.

In replacement of the various January events, BNSW will be hosting three internal events in January 2021 for the selected athletes from the Country and Metro High Performance Program (HPP) trials.

All of the events will be led by the BNSW HP staff and appointed coaches. A mixture of training and competition across a shortened schedule will form the basis of the events. The implementation of the NSW “Style of Play” concepts and the importance of developing “Team Culture” and adherence to the “NSW values” will also be emphasised.

The HPP Trial dates remain the same as originally advertised for both Metro and Country Teams. Athletes are reminded that the HPP trials also serve in the selection of the squads for the State Performance Program (SPP), the Developing Athlete Program (DAP) in Metro and the U18 Country and Metro State squads.

Please visit the link on the Basketball NSW website for dates of the HPP trials and to register to attend:

The finer logistics and details of the January events will be communicated in the coming weeks prior to the trials to all stakeholders upon finalisation.

If you no longer wish to have your son or daughter participate in the HPP trials and would like to  receive a refund from your registration to trial, then please email Antonio Rosina at [email protected]
