Following the release of dates for its High Performance and Development trials, Basketball NSW is pleased to open up registrations for its D-League competition to be later in the year.

D-League is a three-week tournament aimed at showcasing and assisting in developing the best talent across NSW. The tournament is open to any athlete and coach who is a current Basketball NSW registered member.

Athletes interested in being part of D-League need to submit an expression of interest (EOI) online. Likewise, coaches are also encouraged to submit an EOI if they would like to coach in the Tournament.

With the disruptions caused by COVID-19 this year, the selection process for athletes for D-League will vary slightly. The following criteria will be looked at when considering all applicants:

  • Participation in the Metro Junior League (MJL)
  • Participation in the Country Challenges
  • Recommendations from Associations Coaching Directors, BNSW network coaches and BNSW High Performance Coaches
  • Past performances at NSW events

The competition will have the following divisions:

  • U14 Boys & Girls
  • U15 Boys & Girls
  • U16 Boys & Girls
  • U18 Boys & Girls

The dates for D-League are:
25th October – Penrith
1st November – Penrith
8th November – Hills

Basketball NSW General Manager of Coaching and Development Brett Coxsedge expressed his excitement regarding D-League still going ahead in 2020.

“With all the craziness we have had to endure recently, it is great that we have been able to schedule D-League to happen towards the end of the year. This will be the only opportunity for both Country and Metro athletes to compete against one another this year. The kids and coaches love competing against each other at a high level.”

Athletes are encouraged to submit their EOI early as this will assist BNSW to keep an eye on them during any competitions/events that are scheduled to kick off shortly as we look to return to play.

Selections will not be finalised until September which will allow plenty of time for evaluations and feedback to take place.
