The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 (FWBWC22) will be conducted from 22 September to 1 October 2022 in Sydney. The event is conducted by FIBA and Basketball Australia has won the competitive tender to host the event.
As agreed in the Bid Process, a Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been established to oversee the event and will be responsible for the successful conduct of the entire program.
The Board of the LOC has been appointed and consists of the following people, with areas of responsibility:

- Bronwyn Marshall – Co-Deputy & Chair, Athlete Services Committee
- Bob Elphinston OAM – Co-Deputy & Chair, Event Services Committee
- Nickie Scriven – Chair, Communication & Promotion Committee
- Maria Nordstrom – CEO Basketball NSW, Chair Legacy Committee
- Jerril Rechter AM – CEO Basketball Australia
- Samantha Lewis – Chair, Finance & Risk Committee
- Luke Bould – Chair, Commercial Committee
The LOC is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the remaining Director position on the LOC. The Director would be responsible to manage the Competitions & Venues Committee.
All Director positions are entirely voluntary positions and will be in place from the time of appointment until the “winding up” of the LOC Company in approximately December 2022.
The appointee will be a legal Director of the LOC Company and will assume the normal responsibilities and risks associated with such a position. The successful candidate for the position will be required to attend Board Meetings – anticipated 6 – 8 per year and will Chair the Competitions & Venues Committee, reporting back to the LOC.
Whilst not conclusive, the following provides a description of the skills and experience we are seeking from persons to fill the role.
Director – Competition & Venues
This person must be able to demonstrate broad experience and success in sport
The successful person will have worked in a sporting role as a professional and will ideally have Board and/or Chair experience in similar environments. Experience in sport, events and entertainment will be critical.
As Chair of the Competition and Venues Committee, and in conjunction with the Competition & Venues Manager, the key purpose for the Director will be to provide advice on competitions and training venue set up and operations for the event.
This will include, but is not limited to:
- Ability to oversee the delivery of the competition venues and training venue according to FIBA and the Host Nation
- Ability to work with the competition venues to provide competition and training venue facilities, services and operational policies as per FIBA regulations including environmental sustainability
- Provide input to FIBA on the competition scheduling of games to represent the interests of /TV/Host Nation.
- Overseeing the sports presentation including in-venue entertainment, Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Medal Ceremonies
- Ability to supervise the Master Plan and road map on delivery of the various aspects that impact on venues and competition
- Manage the requirements for venue staffing including recruitment and training of
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with venue personnel, contractors, FIBA officials and technical
- Ensure appropriate and timely reporting to outside agencies, including but not limited to the NSW Government, Basketball Australia and
- Ensure appropriate reporting structures for management and the LOC Board
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal
