Wednesday afternoon saw an exclusive function held at NSW Parliament House, with representatives from the NSW Government celebrating in the second annual Parliamentary Friends of Basketball luncheon.

The group is co-chaired by the Member of Ku-ring-gai Mr Alister Henskens, SC MP and Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch AM who both spoke passionately about their personal connection and experience with the sport.

Both the Sydney Uni Flames and Sydney Kings attended the event with Katrina Hibbert, Lauren Scherf, Tahlia Tupaea, Alice Kunek, Sarah Stewart, Jordan Hunter, Hunter Madden, Lochlan Hutchison and Kevin Lisch along with Australian Basketball legend, Lauren Jackson

The highlight of the day, besides all the posing in front of the cameras, was the panel discussion hosted by Mr Henskens and BNSW CEO Maria Nordstrom which was aimed at recognising and celebrating the success of both the men’s and women’s basketball in NSW.

Basketball NSW CEO Maria Nordstrom stressed the importance of the NSW Parliamentary Friends of Basketball in helping to grow the sport in their electorates and focused on the development of the game within the pathway systems across the state.

“We are extremely fortunate to have received wonderful support from the NSW State government, and with our second Parliamentary Friends of Basketball function it was wonderful to see the reciprocal effect we were having across the government,” Nordstrom said.

“Local, State and Federal Government all play an important role in helping us improve playing courts and training facilities across NSW, with our State Government assisting us greatly in doing so and also in the delivery of a number of programs designed to engage participants from all walks of life.”

“Through the Parliamentary Friends of Basketball, we hope to continue to connect with Members from all over NSW, and seek their support with projects for their local basketball communities along with building on relationships for the future of the sport in NSW.”

Special thanks to Lauren Jackson, Basketball Australia, Sydney Kings & Sydney Uni Flames for joining us along with all distinguished guests for their attendance.
