Basketball New South Wales is pleased to announce that Annie La Fleur, will be the ambassador for the I am a Girl campaign.

Annie has had an incredible career on the court, representing both her home state of New South Wales as well as Australia in basketball.

Since retiring Annie has continued to be a great ambassador for the sport both in Australia and in the Oceania region, where she is currently working for FIBA.  Included in this she runs coaching clinics, mentored coaches and provided pathways for young athletes to follow their dream; giving reason to her selection for this role.

‘It’s a great honour to be named Ambassador for the ‘I am a GIRL’ program. Being a woman, being an athlete and having gone through my journey which may be similar to what some of the girls are going through now and will in the future, it gives me great pleasure to share my experiences with them.’

‘There’s a real push to get more girls involved in basketball and I think the ‘I am a GIRL’ program will give girls the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the game; from playing, coaching and refereeing allowing them to be in an environment where they are comfortable and safe. They will be active and it also gives them the chance to create friendships along the way. Some of my lifelong friends have been made from playing basketball.’

Annie will be making her first appearance as the ambassador at our first ‘I am a GIRL’ Conference on Saturday 13th May at Castle Hill RSL. To be apart of this workshop please register: HERE
