Championship Men:

The Sutherland Sharks have extended their winning streak by making it seven straight wins, as they defeated cross-town rivals Bankstown Bruins, 80-69. Sutherlands’ Taj Davis-Spencer led the way for the home side with a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds while four other teammates also added their fair share of points to the scoresheet. Kyle Steward (12), Callum Norris (12), Clayton Carfino (11) and Issac Signal (10) all impressed on the court for Head Coach DeMarcus Berry. Bankstown were not without some stand out players of their own with Alexander Foster adding a swift 22 points of his own, but ultimately his efforts were no match for a strong offensive Sutherland side. The team from the Shire will look to make it nine on the trot this weekend as they are set to face bottom ranked Newcastle Hunters who are yet to secure a victory in 2019. Bankstown will look to put last weekend’s loss behind them as they will return home to face first placed Central Coast Crusaders.

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles flew past the Hornsby Spiders, securing a 104-73 triumph at home last weekend. Manly shot out of the gates early on in the match, with Steven White adding the first two points of the clash followed by several other Spiders’ adding their own mark on the game. The Sea Eagles finished the first quarter ahead, 32-11 with Hornsby unable to match the Sea Eagles in defence for the remaining three terms. Manly’s Steven White was best on ground, acquiring 21 points while opposition’s Matthew Horsley and Lachlan Woodhill combined for 19 points. The fourth placed Sea Eagles will face off against sixth placed Hills Hornets this Saturday while Hornsby who sit in 11th, will look to get back in the winner’s circle when they take on fifth Sydney Comets in Alexandria this weekend.

Championship Women:

The Maitland Mustangs were faced with a shock defeat last weekend going down 87-52 on the road against the Canberra Nationals. The Mustangs currently sit in tenth position on the ladder with only three wins recorded to their name. On the other hand, the Canberra Nationals are making their way up the top end of the ladder moving into fourth position after their win against Maitland. Mustangs’ US import Alyssa Bennett, did her best to motive her side playing through sickness scoring herself 12 points however Shakera Reilly was a standout for the visiting team, putting in just shy of 38 minutes on the court and racking up 15pts. The Nationals who are not short of WNBL talent, managed to put in a more balanced attack with Keely Frolling wreaking havoc with the offensive, leading the match with a double-double, 22 points & 18 rebounds. Maitland will look to turn their luck around as they hit the road again this weekend, taking on Premiers Norths Bears with former WNBL & Opal Renae Garlepp suiting up for the first time since returning from injury for Norths. The Penrith Panthers were victors over the Sydney Comets, 54-67. In a battle that will go down in record books, Sara Matthews got one over her older sister Emily in what would have been a fiery clash on the court. Despite going down, Comets’ Emily Matthews top scored in the match with 21 points compared to rival and sister Sara Matthews who only managed to get 13 points added to the scoresheet. Sydney’s Gabrielle Turnball was also consistent on the court, adding 14 points and 11 rebounds while Penrith’s top scorer Meg Jefferson, managed to add a sweet 20 points, two assists and 12 rebounds.

Division One Men:

The Dubbo Rams got their first win of the season after an impressive 46 points from Rob Dewar as he led his Rams to a 70-73 win, against the Orange Eagles. The Rams hit back against the Eagles following last weekend’s devastating loss to Wagga Wagga Heat as the young team has slowly been improving week to week. Dewar was easily the best on court with his own 46pts with Eagles’ Andrew Manios only adding 27pts to his own team’s scoresheet. The Rams will look to make it two from two this weekend as they take on first placed Shoalhaven tigers while the ninth placed Eagles will travel to Belconnen to take on the fourth ranked Canberra Gunners Academy.

Division One Youth Men:

However, Maitland were boasted by an energetic Taiga Cantor dropping a top score of 35 but fell short during the back half of the match, going down by 24 points. The now sixth placed Illawarra will suit up against a third placed Penrith squad, while Maitland will hope for an overall team performance as they will lineup against Shoalhaven who sit in eight in round 11.

Division One Youth Women:

In the closest match of the round, the first placed Newcastle Hunters outlasted the fifth placed Hills Hornets, 74-66. Hills also showed that they have depth when it comes to their attack with Madison Hare and Maddie Emmett-Duigan combining for 19 points. The Hunters will now take on Sutherland while Hills drop to sixth on the ladder and will now face off against Manly who sit in fifth.

Division Two Youth Men:

The Hornsby Spiders still remain in first place on the ladder in Pool B after securing their tenth straight win of the season, after beating the Maitland Mustangs, 85-62. The Spiders featured four players that reached double figures, Thomas Gillis (18), Maxwell Thurkettle (16), Marcus Hayden (16) and Raymond Takchi (14). The Mustangs defence fell apart during the final term as the home side managed to open the two-point gap heading into the final term, 53-51.
