STAYING CONNECTED WITH OUR ATHLETES

We’re lucky to live in a digitally connected world and during this unprecedented time, our High Performance team have been working hard to think outside the box and provide their weekly workout sessions from the comfort of their own home using the powers of technology.

The last few weeks have been difficult for our basketball community with COVID-19 forcing the suspension of many competitions and closure of stadiums across the country, but with the use of the internet, we can still continue to train and check-in with athletes that are a part of our High Performance programs.

General Manager for Coaching and Development, Brett Coxsedge has described the use of online tools as an excellent way to bridge the gap between face to face workouts to online group work out sessions.

“We are very lucky we live in a time where technology is easily accessible and that it is a major factor in keeping our community connected,” Coxsedge said.

“Our High Performance department has worked incredibly hard to continue to work with our 150 SPP and 200 DAP athletes across the state using various online tools to assist in their continued development. We have introduced daily video sessions that keep our athletes engaged and accountable while continuing with their workouts at home.”

“In just the past week, we have found that it has been successful in keeping track of each athlete in our pathway programs and an excellent way to keep them active while building upon their skills.”

“During this time of unknown, it is more important than ever to be interactive with our athletes and we have also introduced new challenges each week for them which provides a good escape for them to focus on.”

Jarrod Moore, also added that he has been working on a similar program to reach our NSW coaches with weekly online sessions and continued personal development which will benefit future online club coach courses online.

“Since moving online, I have seen a positive result in all our coaches across the state staying connected with each other which is one way to build upon social inclusion when we are staying inside,” Moore said.

“Over the next few weeks, I have some exciting ideas to bring to the table, with one of them being weekly guest presenters to present over Zoom, so that our coaches do not miss out on any of the action.”

Basketball NSW will continue to bring you good news stories as we all try to navigate this new way of living together.

If you or your child would like to start training in the backyard, there are a number of apps you can download to help you with your basketball skills. We recommend the HomeCourt App which is a fast and fun way for anyone to develop core basketball skills, from beginner to pro.

HomeCourt uses your iPhone or iPad to capture and analyse your basketball – from your shots, to your dribbling, to your movements. You can download it HERE.
