UNDERSTANDING THE CATEGORIES

Tribunal Matters: On-court incidents that have been escalated through the formal tribunal process – typically following a technical or unsportsmanlike foul, ejection, or report by an official.

Zero Tolerance Complaints: Complaints relating to abusive, threatening or intimidating behaviour towards officials, players, coaches or other community members – both inside and outside the playing environment.

Member Protection Complaints: Matters dealt with under Basketball NSW’s Member Protection framework, including child safety concerns, harassment, discrimination and any conduct that may breach the National Integrity Framework.

Glossary of Outcomes

Outcome What it means
Caution A formal note placed on the participant’s record. No active sanction, but considered if further matters arise.
Warning A formal letter advising the participant their behaviour has fallen short of expected standards. A more serious step than a caution.
Behaviour Agreement A signed agreement between the participant and Basketball NSW outlining specific behavioural commitments and conditions of continued participation.
Fine A financial penalty issued under the Basketball NSW By-Laws.
Suspension Apply to people who are registered participants of basketball, these penalties are time-limited removal from playing, coaching, officiating or attending Basketball NSW activities.
Ban Apply to people who are not registered participants of basketball, their penalties include removal from the basketball environment for a specified period, typically extending across all roles and venues where Basketball NSW manages a competition or event.
WWC Clearance Barred The participant’s Working with Children Check has been barred, preventing them from holding any role involving children in the sport.
Referral to NSW Police Where conduct may constitute a criminal matter, Basketball NSW formally refers the matter to NSW Police for further investigation.
Unsubstantiated Following investigation, the complaint could not be supported by available evidence. No sanction applied.
