Shelley Gorman Invitational

Shelley Gorman Invitational has been postponed to 2023

History

What is the SGI?

The inaugural Shelley Gorman Invitational was played in January 2021 and had six teams (2x U20 NSW)  play nine games over the course of three days with a pool of $15,000 in cash prizes.

The tournament is named after former Australian Opal and Basketball NSW Hall of Fame member, Shelley Gorman.

Each team had a selection of NSW juniors, WNBL and Australian players with a marquee athlete selected for the female only side.

The fast-paced, unique tournament format had a majority of games streamed on the BNSW YouTube channel, with the winners walking away with $10,000, runners up $5,000, and each player paid for their participation in the tournament.

The event was highly enjoyable for the players, coaches, spectators and officials who were involved, and not only did the event celebrate Australian women’s basketball, but also celebrated the great Shelley Gorman who was on hand for every game to enjoy and share in the excitement.
