Basketball NSW is the governing body for basketball in New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1938, Basketball NSW has a rich history of promoting and developing the game of basketball throughout the state. As an affiliated member of Basketball Australia (BA), the national governing body, Basketball NSW is committed to growing and advancing the sport at all levels.

The role of the technical officials is to ensure the game is played in a fair and safe manner and within the rules. Refereeing is the most physical active as they are on-court and “call” the game. Other technical officials perform various roles on the scoretable and statistics and further information about each role is given below.

Each year Basketball NSW enters teams into Basketball Australia's National Championships in the U20's, U18', U16', Wheelchair Basketball and for Players with an Intellectual Impairment.

Basketball NSW provides opportunities for athletes to represent NSW at the Footlocker National Championships?
Both Country and Metropolitan teams compete in the U16 and U18 age groups, whilst combined teams compete in the U20 age group. NSW also has combined teams in the Ivor Burge (athletes with an intellectual disability) and National Junior Wheelchair Championships.
The National Championships provide young basketballers with the opportunity to play in an elite tournament representing their club, school or state on the national stage. Australian Junior Championships have been and remain an important stepping stone in the careers of many Australian basketballers.
Many of Australia’s best players have taken part in the National Championships before going on to represent Australia at the junior and senior international competitions like World Championships and Olympic Games.
