The Duke of Ed

Basketball NSW is proud to support The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (the Duke of Ed), an internationally recognised framework empowering young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their full potential regardless of their location or circumstance. We offer a range of diverse and enjoyable basketball opportunities for anyone completing a Duke of Ed Level across NSW including opportunities to complete their Physical Recreation, Skills and Voluntary Service Sections.

THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Duke 4Sport is a free initiative that connects young people aged 14 to 24 with sporting clubs and organisations, supporting them to complete the Physical Recreation, Skills and Voluntary Service components of the Duke of Ed Framework. The Duke of Ed is designed to help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and stay active while contributing to their communities.

Through the partnership, Basketball NSW will provide opportunities for young people to get involved in the sport as players, coaches, officials, and volunteers. These experiences can contribute directly to their Duke of Ed requirements while also introducing them to long-term pathways within basketball.

How can I get involved?

Whether you’re stepping on court as a player, learning the ropes as a coach or a referee, or giving back through volunteering, there is a pathway for you.

Current Basketball NSW participants can get involved with the Duke of Ed by having their hours dedicated to playing, helping out at their association or developing skills accredited as part of their Duke of Ed Bronze, Silver or Gold Level.

What are the benefits?

Each year, more than 40,000 young people across New South Wales engage with the Duke of Ed.

By aligning with the Duke of Ed, Basketball NSW continues its commitment to providing inclusive, accessible pathways that extend beyond the court and supporting young people to build confidence and become active members of their communities.
