U18 METRO GIRLS CLINCH GOLD IN UNDEFEATED STREAK!

In a thrilling display of athleticism and determination, the Under 18 & Junior Wheelchair Foot Locker National Championships recently concluded with remarkable victories and outstanding performances from our NSW State Teams. Among the standout achievements, the U18 Metro Girls’ team emerged as the undisputed champions, clinching gold in an undefeated streak that left spectators in awe.

The U18 Metro Girls’ team showcased their prowess and teamwork throughout the tournament, dominating each game with their skillful plays earning them well-deserved recognition as the top contenders in their category. This was the first time an U18’s girl’s team have won gold since 2012 in this age group when the U18 Metro Girls won in Perth.

Meanwhile, the U18 Country Girls’ team exhibited commendable resilience and spirit, finishing in a respectable 6th place despite facing tough competition. Their determination and commitment to the game were evident in every match they played, showcasing the depth of talent within the country teams.

In the boys’ category, the U18 Metro Boys battled fiercely, securing a 9th place finish in a highly competitive field. Despite facing stiff injury challenges, they demonstrated skill and sportsmanship, earning admiration from spectators.

Similarly, the U18 Country Boys’ team exhibited tenacity and Country spirit, finishing in 11th place and leaving a lasting impression with their passionate performance on the court.

In the Junior Wheelchair category, the team displayed exceptional talent and determination, securing a commendable fourth-place finish. Their grit and resilience throughout the tournament showcased the growing prominence of wheelchair basketball and inspired spectators with their skilful displays.

Basketball NSW extends its sincere appreciation to our esteemed partners, whose generous support has been instrumental in the success of our state teams. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Momentum Physiotherapy, iAthletic, and Soul Sports for their unwavering commitment. Their partnership has significantly contributed to the development and advancement of the professionalism of the teams and the empowering of young athletes to reach their full potential.

Overall, the U18 & Junior Wheelchair Foot Locker National Championships provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their abilities and passion for the game. The outstanding performances of all the teams involved underscored the depth of talent within Australian wheelchair basketball and set the stage for future success on both national and international levels.

Women’s Gold Medal: Sarah Fahey – Newcastle Basketball Association

Men’s Bronze Medal: Jakson Peach (Crew Chief) – Newcastle Basketball Association & Nick Newman – Bankstown Basketball Association.

A special mention to referees Jesse Brown & Jacob Brennan plus our three NSW referee coaches. Also to Statistician James Letham & Scoretable Sheree Smith.
